I recently had a client that shared that she absolutely hated networking and how it brought her back to high school when she was uncomfortable with who she was and the whole process left her full of anxiety.
Then today, I was talking to a friend that shared that she told her coach that her biggest fear was that her clients would see right through her and would soon realize she wasn’t as amazing as they once thought.
Besides the fact that both these women are truly amazing in their own right… it is very interesting how we view ourselves vs. how others view us. I am not the only person that thinks these two are amazing!
In my Jumpstart Your Life course, I shared in one of the videos how I was able to see Oprah’s first “Live Your Best Life” live series in Los Angeles for only $30!! In an interview later on, Oprah revealed that she didn’t think anyone would pay to come and see her. This wasn’t 30 years ago… this was 10 years ago… and she was pretty big 10 years ago! Her thinking behind it at the time was, “People don’t pay to see the taping of my show… they aren’t used to paying to see me. Plus, they aren’t coming to see me on the show, they are seeing these amazing people I am interviewing!”.
So it looks like no matter how well we are doing (and most of you would probably agree with me that Oprah is doing alright!), there are moments like this in everyone’s life. I actually catch myself in this spiral from time to time… more often than I would like to admit… where I need to literally come up to catch my breathe.
Although I would love to remove myself from ever having those thoughts… they come up for a reason. My goal is not to beat myself up when I have them… (a little counter productive to beat up a person that is already down!) but to see how quickly I can shift into the joy and ease of my life. How quickly I can say, “thanks for the message Universe, now, let me move into the energy, feeling and words of the vibration I want to attract. ”
And if I am not able to find those thoughts in that moment… I will borrow the thoughts of my friends, family members and clients that have raved about me. I will borrow their thoughts and their belief in me that I can do anything… And from that place, I start again!
One of my favorite quotes in the world is Marianne Williamson’s quote from her book, A Return to Love… in this famous quote, she shares that as much as we think we are fearful of failure, disappointment or getting discovered as not enough… underneath the story that we tell others and ourselves, we are actually MORE fearful of our power, our greatness and our amazing ability to be conscious creators of our life.
So what is your story that is holding you back? What is your fear?
Give thanks for being able to notice it.. and now, step into your greatness.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of Our God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
With Much Love, Shauna
