The whimsical style of Shauna Harper’s paintings are grounded in the multi-colors of her childhood box of crayola crayons. Her love of how the butter-like texture of acrylic paint meets the canvas keeps her coming back to her easel.

As a self taught artist, she starts almost all her paintings with a dark (black or brown) base. As inspiration comes to her, it appears as if she pulls colors out of the canvas when in fact she is adding it in. In most areas of Shauna’s life, when inspired, creativity flows out of her quickly, intuitively and endlessly.

Her paintings often have recurring symbols of heritage homes, twisted buildings, surreal trees and – once in a while – people with crazy hair. Shauna aspires to connect with the pure joy of childhood in each of us.
